Welcome to Technical Illustration Arts. This blog is created to share my knowledge of drawing and illustration with students and educators. It was inspired by the illustration workshops I conducted for the technical illustration students of Sheridan College in Oakvill Ontario. I hope to follow through with the themes developed for the workshops and hopefully provide a more complete set of tutorials than were possible with the two day workshops.
I encourage comments from illustration students and faculty. It is my hope that this will help shape the direction of my tutorial content and provide a social context for this endeavor.
Much of the content on Technical Illustration Arts will be available to the public. But I plan that there will be some advanced tutorials that will be available only to students enrolled in an illustration program. If you find that a link asks for a password and you are a student or faculty member please contact me for your password.
In addition I will be using Technical Illustration Arts to explore new ideas about drawing and painting techniques. I suspect that most of these will be just random thoughts but perhaps a few will be the seed for a more in-depth discussion.
As much of the techniques I use in my artwork are complex and the digital work-flow is highly technical I will be using this blog as my personal note book as well. There is so much to know and learn about technical illustration that keeping it all in the wet space between the ears is close to impossible. Musicians have their Fake Book to remember the standards so I will have an Illustration “Cheat Book” here.
